Five in court after San Fernando family robbed
Five men who were detained following a report of a home invasion were expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate on Friday.
The five were held during a police operation on Wednesday morning by officers of the Southern Division, shortly after the incident was reported.
Police were told that a 62-year-old man was at his home with his 50-year-old wife and their 11-year-old son in Palmyra Village, San Fernando, when around 3 am they were awakened by loud noises.
Seven men, armed with cutlasses, had entered the home.
They assaulted the group and tied them up before stealing a quantity of cash which was kept at the home, along with electronic devices.
The men then fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.
Relatives raised an alarm and the police were notified.
The officers responded, and they encountered a group of five persons who matched the descriptions of the robbers.
The group was confronted, detained, and are currently aiding with inquiries
The men were later pointed out.
Police are searching for two other suspects.
Based on information received, arrests are said to be imminent.
None of the victims, Loop News was told, suffered any serious injuries, however, the 62-year-old and his son were taken for medical treatment for wounds suffered.
