Update: Two charged after hiding in supermarket shelves

Update March 12, 2020, 2.22pm: 

The two men who attempted to hide from police in a supermarket they had attempted to rob, were scheduled to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate on Thursday.

The two men, police said, aged 23 and 36, are both from San Juan.

They have been charged with six offences, including robbery with violence, shooting with intent, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and possession of both items with the intent to endanger life.

PC Bacchus of the San Fernando CID is the complainant (charging officer) in this matter.

According to police reports, around 9.45 pm on Sunday, officers of the San Fernando Police Station were alerted to a robbery in progress at Bamboo Supermarket, La Romaine.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 23-year-old man from Sunshine Avenue, San Juan hiding on a shelf in the supermarket.

Hidden near to him was a Glock pistol with a silencer along with a magazine loaded with 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The other suspect, a 36-year-old man of Prizgar Road, San Juan was found hiding between two refrigerators.

Both men were arrested and taken to the San Fernando Police Station.
