An autopsy has been ordered after a Valencia man collapsed and died while in the custody of police. The deceased has been identified as Mitra Hassanali.
The 36-year-old died minutes after he was detained at his Swan Quarry, Valencia, home on Friday evening.
Police said the incident had left them baffled as Hassanali had surrendered without incident or resistance.
However, it was suspected that he suffered a seizure while being taken to the police vehicle.
He was rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body has since been ordered removed from the hospital, and an autopsy is carded to take place on Tuesday at the Forensic Science Center in St James.
Sgt Jagroop of the Valencia Police Post is continuing investigations.
