Man held after attacking woman with cutlass, threatening to shoot her

A 33-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly attacked a woman with a cutlass and threatened to shoot her.

The 35-year-old woman made a domestic abuse report at the Gasparillo Police Station on Wednesday.

The woman told police that around 3.40 pm she was dropping a man known to her at his residence in Whiteland, when they got into an argument.

He allegedly armed himself with a cutlass and dealt several blows to the woman about her body.

He then threw gasoline inside the woman’s vehicle.

The man then allegedly attempted to set the car ablaze with a lighter.

The man also reportedly took a brick and threw it towards the vehicle.

The woman said she became fearful for her life and began running away from the scene.

According to the victim’s account, the man pursued her and continued to beat her.

He also threatened to shoot her.

Sgt John along with a party of officers launched an investigation into the reports surrounding the incident and arrested the man.

A search warrant was executed at his home and one Gamo air rifle was found.

The man could not produce a firearm user’s license.

The suspect is expected to be charged for this offence.

Investigations are ongoing.
