Men killed by police, identified
The two men who were killed during a confrontation with police on Thursday morning have been identified as Atiba Goodridge and Josiah Babb.
They were identified on Friday afternoon by relatives.
An autopsy is carded to take place today at the Forensic Science Center in Federation Park.
Goodridge was from Southern Garden, Point Fortin, while Babb was from Lastique Street, East Dry River.
Both men were shot dead in a confrontation with police after they allegedly committed a series of robberies in the Longdenville district.
The shooting took place at about 10:30am on Thursday, along Depot Road, near the Abel Brick Factory.
Longdenville police responded to a report of armed robberies and while on patrol, they observed a vehicle matching the description given and pursued.
The officers gave chase onto Depot Road, where the men stopped the car and attempted to flee into nearby bushes.
Police said the robbers shot at them so they returned fire. The two robbers were hit about their bodies.
The injured men were taken to the Chaguanas District Hospital but they were pronounced dead on arrival.
At the scene of the shooting, officers recovered a Smith and Wesson revolver with three live rounds, along with three spent shells.
