Outgoing San Fernando East MP Randall Mitchell has expressed gratitude to his burgesses for the privilege of serving as their Parliamentary representative.

Brian Manning, the son of former Prime Minister Patrick Manning was selected by the PNM Screening Committee as the candidate for San Fernando East in the upcoming general election.

The San Fernando East seat was held by Patrick Manning from 1971 to 2015, making him the longest-serving parliamentarian.

In a letter to his constituents, Mitchell said he will continue to be at the service of the people of San Fernando East, and in any capacity that his party requires.

Mitchell also extended congratulations to Manning and wished him “every success in continuing to develop the communities within this great flagship constituency of the PNM”.

Below is the full letter penned by the outgoing MP:

My Dear Constituents of San Fernando East

It has been the privilege and honour of a life-time to have served as your Parliamentary representative for my hometown constituency of San Fernando East.

Today, I was advised by the Screening Committee of the People’s National Movement of its decision to select Mr. Brian Manning, son of my erstwhile predecessor, the late Honourable Patrick Manning, as its candidate for San Fernando East in the upcoming general election.

I congratulate Brian and wish him every success in continuing to develop the communities within this great flagship constituency of the PNM.

I am thankful to my Political Leader Dr. Keith Rowley for the confidence he reposed in me in 2015 and for the opportunities to serve his Cabinet in the portfolios of Public Administration, Housing and Urban Development, and Tourism.

I also thank my cabinet colleagues, my supporters, and the party faithful to whom I am indebted for their unconditional support over the past five years.

I remain committed to the aims and objectives of the People’s National Movement. Since 2008, I have served in whatever capacity required of me by my party, including as a coordinator, area manager, elections supervisory committee member, and ordinary party group member. I remain a lifetime member of the PNM.

It matters not in what position I serve, above all, my heart and my hopes are with you, my beloved people of San Fernando East.

I am a fellow constituent heavily invested in the human, social, and physical development of this place where I was raised and continue to call home.

I am with you and I am always at your service.

Rest assured that even as I move on to life’s next adventure, you can depend on my commitment to the development of San Fernando East and to the materialisation of the vision of the PNM.

With our common dedication, San Fernando East will continue to progress and prosper. As I indicated since 2015, I remain one of you, serving you.

I love you and I thank you. One Love San Fernando East.

Randall Mitchell, MP
