MoH confirms ninth COVID-19 death in T&T

An elderly woman with pre-existing medical conditions died as a result of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday.

This is the ninth virus-related death recorded in T&T.

The last reported death from COVID-19 was on April 6, 2020.

The Ministry of Health on Friday confirmed the death on Friday afternoon.

The Ministry advised that the Chief Medical Officer was informed of the death at 12.15 pm, but delayed the release of the information until the family was informed and had ample time to process the sad news.

The Ministry called on the public to respect patient confidentiality and allow the family to mourn in peace.

Citizens are being encouraged to follow all of The New Normal guidelines and share verified information from official sources.

In this regard, it denied rumours that there were five COVID-19 related deaths at the Caura Hospital on Thursday.

As of Friday morning, T&T’s confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus stood at 412, with 265 active cases.
