More police patrols in Valsayn after water pump damaged by arson

Patrols have increased in Valsayn following the destruction of a water pump.

St Joseph police conducted routine patrols around the site, actively keeping an eye for any suspicious activities last night.

In the interim, they are currently investigating the incident – which has caused damage estimated between $300,000 and $500,000.

Around 9.15 pm on Sunday, a worker was by the pump located at the shoulder band of the Caroni River in Bamboo #1, Valsayn, when he heard several loud explosions on the compound.

Fearful for his life, he fled.

Upon returning a few minutes later, he observed the said pump on fire, he immediately contacted the Fire Services, and officers from the San Juan fire station under the supervision of FSO Thornhill responded and extinguished the blaze.

PC Duncan is continuing enquiries.
