Morvant man charged with robbing police officer of gun

A 39-year-old Morvant man has been charged for the offence of robbery with aggravation following an incident which occurred in Santa Cruz on June 18.

Anton Otis Samuel of Laventille Extension, Morvant was formally charged with the offence on June 23.

He appeared at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court the following day.

The matter was postponed to July 22.

One Glock 30 pistol belonging to a police officer was also recovered on July 3 and taken for analysis.

The victim reported standing in his yard after exiting his vehicle when he was approached by an armed individual who demanded cash.

He attempted to draw his licensed firearm when it was taken by a second suspect.

The suspects escaped in a waiting car after taking a sum of cash from the victim’s vehicle.

The car was later intercepted, however, there was only one suspect found in the vehicle.

He was arrested.
