No bail for teen who shot cashier

An 18-year-old boy has appeared before a Siparia Magistrate, charged with attempted murder.

Miguel Thompson was brought before Magistrate Margaret Alert, to answer five charges which arose from the shooting of Navita Premchand, a cashier at Unique Book Store in Fyzabad.

He was represented by attorney Ramnarine Soorjansingh.

The State was represented by Sgt Starr Jacob.

Sgt Ramsaran was the complainant (charging officer) in this matter.

Thompson faced five charges following the shooting incident in Fyzabad on February 28.

Alert denied Thompson bail, but did remind him of his right to apply to a judge in chambers to appeal the decision.

The matter was then adjourned.

Premchand, who had been shot five times, remains warded in a critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital up to Tuesday morning.
