No Carnival for streets of Notting Hill, alternative planned

There will be no Carnival on the streets of Notting Hill Carnival this year.

However, organisers say they are still planning the event in a temporary form.

In a release issued today, the Carnival Village Trust, organisers of the Notting Hill Carnival, say after lengthy consultation with strategic partners and their Advisory Council, the board has decided that Carnival will not take place on the streets of Notting Hill as it has for the past 50 years.

The annual Panorama competition will not take place as well.

The organisers say that the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic and the way it has unfolded means that not having it on the streets is the only safe option.

They assure that they are still in planning stages for Notting Hill Carnival 2020 in its temporary form which will take place over the August bank holiday weekend.
