Police: 21 women killed by domestic violence this year

Out of 319 murders recorded for the year thus far, 44 of these have been women.

21 of these incidents, police said, have been confirmed via inquiries, as having been the end result of situations of domestic violence.

Police are encouraging all victims of abuse to make reports or take decisive action to remove themselves from the situation.

These matters, police said, would be treated with urgency and delicacy, through specialized officers at the Gender-Based Violence Unit.

Police are urging victims to come forward because 'any act of violence' has the potential to escalate to a fatality.

The latest incident took place on Tuesday when the body of 23-year-old Tenile Cupid was found.

An autopsy is carded to take place at the Forensic Science Center in Federation Park, St James, to confirm how she died.

Cupid’s body was discovered on Tuesday, at about 3.10pm in the vicinity of Well#8 Syncline Road, Santa Flora.

She was partially clothed, and there were multiple marks of violence about her body, including a wound to her head.

Police are still searching for a man who was close to Cupid for questioning, after receiving certain information of abuse.

More on this as it becomes available.
