Police nab nine in anti-crime exercises

Nine persons have been arrested during an anti-crime exercise in the Northern Division. 

On Friday, Area East and Area Central Officers of the Northern Division, conducted an anti-crime exercise between the hours of 2.00 pm to 12.00 midnight. 

The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt David, ASP Gyan, Insp Pitt (Ag), supervised by Cpls (Ag), Gordon and Ali, PC Hall, and included a party of officers of the Major Operations and Canine Units. 

At 6.30 pm, officers executed a search warrant at the home of a 44-year-old man at One Way Drive, Tumpuna Road, Arima. During the search, officers found a quantity of marijuana on a washing machine located at the eastern side of the house. The man was arrested and taken to the La Horquetta Police Station for processing. 

Around 8.15pm, officers, acting on information received, proceeded to Honey Creeper Drive, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, and observed several persons gathered to the northern side of the roadway. Upon seeing the officers, the group ran off. Officers conducted a search of the area and to the north-eastern side officers discovered one brown and chrome Roberts Defense pistol. The pistol was seized and taken to the La Horquetta Police Station for processing. 

Continuing their exercise, around 9.15pm, the party of officers executed a search warrant at another home at Honey Creeper Drive, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca. During the search the officers seized a bag containing 14 rounds of ammunition. Four persons were arrested in connection with this find and taken to the Maloney Police Station for pending further enquiries. 

Other persons arrested during the exercise are as follow: 

A 32-year old man of Building Two, Maloney Gardens, D’abadie, detained for shooting enquiries; 

A 28-year-old priority offender of Building Eight Maloney Gardens, D’abadie, arrested on shooting enquiries and possession of camouflage clothing; 

A 31-year-old, of Building Four, Maloney Gardens, D’abadie also arrested on shooting enquiries; and 

A 41-year-old, of Willet Avenue, Maloney Gardens, D’abadie arrested for an outstanding warrant.
