Arima police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who committed an armed robbery in broad day light.
The man, in a bid to escape the scene, even left his firearm at the scene, which has since been sent for ballistic testing.
The incident took place at about 12.45pm, along Tumpuna Road, Arima, in the vicinity of ‘The Crossings’.
A team of officers led by Cpl Haynes, and including WPC Williams and PC Williams, were on patrol when they observed a man flagging down the vehicle and shouting ‘Robbery!’. The officers observed a silver Mitsubishi Lancer speeding away from the scene.
They gave chase, however, while in hot pursuit, the driver of the targeted vehicle lost control of the car, which crashed into a wall near Second Street, Tumpuna Road. A lone occupant exited the vehicle and dropped an object resembling a firearm and ran into a deep drain, escaping
The firearm was recovered and when examined it was an M&P pistol with eight rounds of 45 calibre ammunition. The vehicle was wrecked and conveyed to the Arima Police Station. Enquiries are continuing.
