Salary Relief Grant still being finalised, Finance Ministry says

The details and relevant qualifying criteria for the provision of the Salary Relief Grant is still being finalised.

Finance Minister Colm Imbert announced the measure at a conference on Monday.

The grant, as proposed, will offer temporary relief to citizens whose income has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant offers up to $1,500 for a period of up to three months.

The grant will be administrated by the National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT).
The Finance Ministry on Wednesday indicated that application procedures and other criteria for the grant are expected to be finalised within a week. It’s expected that this will be completed by next Monday (March 30).

The response from the Ministry comes a day after citizens rushed to NIBTT offices to access the grant.

NIBTT later issued a statement indicating that the grant was not yet available, and urged customers to await further details on the grant.

The Finance Ministry indicated that when the grant becomes available, those who qualify will be able to apply through the designated offices and the processing of applications will run its natural course.

The grant will be issued on a case by case basis, depending on the personal circumstances of the individuals involved.
