Santa Cruz man shot during robbery

A Santa Cruz man is warded at the Port of Spain General Hospital after he was shot twice on Friday night.

The victim, a Private Hire driver, told police that around 9pm he had picked up a man known to him who asked to be taken to the Lady Young Road in Belmont.

Upon arriving, the man went to speak to two other individuals along the roadway. The trio then returned to the car and announced a hold-up.

They then assaulted the driver, placed him in the trunk of the car, and began to drive off. However, while in the trunk, the victim heard the suspects loudly indicate they were going to kill him.

He began to kick his way out of the trunk and heard loud explosions. He then felt burning sensations to his right hand and buttocks.

The trunk opened, and the victim fled the scene onto the roadway.

He was able to flag down a passing car and raise an alarm.

He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where was treated.

More on this as it becomes available.
