Update: Three held as shooting in 'D'Cocoa' leaves one dead

Update 11:43 am:

Three people are in police custody after the discovery of a body in the Beecham Coco area in Belmont on Tuesday night.

According to police reports, around 8:50 pm, police officers were on patrol in the Port of Spain Division when they responded to a report of loud explosions in an area known as ‘D'Cocoa’.

In the vicinity of B and B's Parlour, they found the body of a man bearing gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Tuesday night, officers returning to the scene of the crime observed a blue Nissan Almera speeding towards the Lady Young area.

Officers became suspicious and pursued the vehicle, which did not stop, even after officers engaged their lights and sirens.  

The vehicle was eventually intercepted at the St Ann’s roundabout and when officers investigated, they found one passenger in the car bleeding from a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police said the man was unable to provide a satisfactory account as to how he sustained the injury.

He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment and remains warded under police guard.

Two other people in the vehicle were taken to the Besson Street Police Station for further questioning.
