Southex to raise funds for artistes with live Arrival Day concert

Southex will stream a free 'live' Indian Arrival Day concert to raise funds for artistes out of work due to the COVID-19 shutdown

The concert will be held on May 30 via Facebook and YouTube and will feature some of the top local Bollywood singers in Trinidad and Tobago.

‘Arrival D Concert’ will be a full-featured concert, with a stage and lighting, streamed from a private location, with all social distancing regulations taken into consideration, Southex assured.

The concert will run for two hours, from 5pm-7pm and there will be a ‘donate’ button, where all donations will go to a fund to assist. People will be able to donate using a credit card via ‘Pay Pal’.

The concert will feature Raymond Ramnarine, Rooplal Girdharrie, Satnarine Ragoo, Veejai Ramkissoon, Reshma Ramlal, Anuradha Hansraj, Savita Singh and GI Beharry. All artistes will be supported by the Avatar band led by Kishore Wizzy Ramdath. The Show will be hosted by Big Rich.

All artistes scheduled to perform are donating their time.

"The entertainment industry is one of these industries that have been affected in a major way. While many other businesses may see a light at the end of the tunnel, our local artistes in Trinidad and Tobago are faced with ‘zero’ income from an industry that went from 100 to ‘nil’ literally overnight. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for artistes," said Southex via a press release.

"Our local artistes who are ’superstars’ in their own right, are very simple folk,  who have been quietly suffering with many of them having nowhere to turn. There are many artistes that are off the grid, not as popular as others, and while they made a living from ‘cooking to cooking’, weddings, etc - basically ‘gig to gig’, they are now faced with no form of income and no way to put food on their table."

Southex said as the producers of the annual Chutney Soca Monarch, it has been one of the ‘caretakers’ of the Indo-Caribbean music industry which includes dancers, artistes, and musicians. With this in mind, the company feels a responsibility as one of the ‘caretakers’ to now do something to take care of our artistes.

Anyone willing to support the cause can contact Southex at 6532908, 6538923, or via email at info@southex.co.tt.
