Three suspects held after attack on gay men

Arouca police are calling on the public to be mindful and vigilant, whenever they arrange to meet people on social media sites.

This warning comes after three persons were held over the weekend after they allegedly robbed men they met on social media sites and chat rooms.

Police said the suspects, who are all between the ages of 18 and 22, from East Trinidad, are being questioned and placed on identification parades this week.

Police said that the three men would join chat rooms, especially those used by members of the gay community, where they would engage their intended targets.

They would then arrange to meet with the victims at locations between Curepe and Arima.

However, the rendezvous would soon turn sour, as the suspects would assault and rob the unsuspecting victims.

Officers of the Arouca police station received several reports, and as a result, they conducted a sting operation which led to the three suspects being held.

The operation was led by ASP Gyan and included Sgt Highly, Cpl Bernard, and PC Kerr.

More on this as it becomes available.
