T&TEC worker self-isolating after suspected exposure to COVID-19

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) is advising the public that there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among its staff. However, it admitted that an employee, who might have been exposed to the novel coronavirus, was asked by medical officials to self-isolate while undergoing testing.

T&TEC said that as a result and out of an abundance of caution, the Commission has asked other persons who were secondary contacts to stay away from work in the interim. As with other members of the public who are being reviewed by the health authorities, the commission said further action will be taken once results are provided.

Meanwhile, the state utility said it has long-established protocols for treating with communicable diseases which were activated prior to the announcement of the country’s first case. It said beginning on March 16, 2020 service centres will remain open for bill payments only, thereby reducing physical contact among customers and staff in keeping with social distancing protocols.

Customers are also encouraged to utilise T&TEC’s website ( to pay bills and initiate service requests such as new connections, temporary disconnections, account transfers, relocation of poles, meter checks and updating contact information.
