TTPS: 12 Venezuelans caught arriving at South Trinidad beach

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said 12 Venezuelan nationals were detained after they were seen coming ashore on a beach in South Trinidad.

In a statement, the TTPS said the 12 were arrested as they came ashore at Palo Seco Beach, Palo Seco on Saturday.

Officers of the Santa Flora Police Station received information that a boat with Venezuelans nationals came ashore illegally, and went to the beachfront.

Upon arrival, the officers saw two vehicles parked on the shore with people packing their luggage into them. 

Police said the vehicles were stopped and the Venezuelans and the drivers of both vehicles, who are Trinidadians, were detained and transferred to the Siparia Health facility for Covid-19 screening.

Police said following this, they were transferred to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, for self- quarantine.

Investigations are continuing.
