A Jamaican national is among two people hospitalised following an attempt to evade police during a roadblock exercise on Sunday evening.
The incident took place along the Toco Main Road, Matura.
Police said that officers were conducting routine roadblocks when they attempted to intercept a grey Hyundai.
However, the driver of the vehicle drove away.
The officers gave chase, however, upon nearing Vega de Oropouche, the driver of the car lost control and crashed.
The vehicle overturned several times before coming to a stop on its hood.
The two occupants of the car were alive and were taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital for further treatment.
A search of the car was conducted and officers found nothing illegal, leading officers to suspect that the men fled either due to the immigration status of the Jamaican national, or that they had disposed of the illegal items they were carrying during the chase.
The operation was supervised by Snr Sup Aguilal, with assistance from ASP Joseph, Sgt Katwaroo, and Sgt Garcia.
