Venezuelan nationals held with weed

Four Venezuelan men are currently in police custody after they were held with two kilogrammes of marijuana.

The men were arrested during routine patrol by coast guard officials on Sunday morning.

Coast Guard officers were conducting patrols around 1.30 am on Sunday when they observed a pirogue in the open waters near Gasparee Caves.

The vessel was intercepted and searched.

The drugs, LoopTT was told, were found hidden among a stash of hammocks, clothing, and honey.

As a result of the find, the men were immediately arrested and the vessel was seized and taken to shore.

The four men, all said to be in their 30’s, were handed over to officials from the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit.

They are expected to be questioned and charged for possession of marijuana for the purposes of trafficking.
