Minister of National Security, Stuart Young has announced that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has raised their alert level to red amid ongoing protests in Port of Spain.

During a media conference to address the protests, Young said the police are functioning with support from the government.

“The Commissioner of Police this morning raised the alert level in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to a red alert and that brings with it certain follow on consequences meaning all police out, leave is suspended, all resources out,” he explained.

Despite the Minister’s call for peace and calm within the Port of Spain area, protests have spread throughout other parts of Trinidad including reported incidents in Maloney, Samaroo Village and Olton Road in Arima.
