Yellow Alert: Met Office warns of riverine flooding

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow Level Riverine Flooding alert.

In an update Friday, the Met Office said smaller rivers/tributaries, especially in central and southern areas of Trinidad, are likely to continue rising and possibly overflow as a result of recent rainfall activity.

The Met Office said further rainfall is expected overnight and this can exacerbate the situation.

The Met Office is also monitoring the major river courses, but said their levels are below threshold values at this time.

Those in low-lying areas or near rivers prone to flooding are urged to take measures to protect life and property.

The public is urged to continue to monitor updates from the Met Office via their official channels.
