Young: 'Cyber patrols' to clamp down on child porn

Informal patrols on Facebook and Instagram will help curb the spread of images and videos of children engaging in sexual activities.

That's according to National Security Minister Stuart Young who said that these routine cyber patrols by the Child Protection Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service have led to four males and one female being charged in relation to child sexual offences between January 2017 and January 2019.

The Minister made the revelation while responding during questions for oral answer in the Parliament on Monday.

He said the Child Protection Unit is also engaged in several proactive initiatives to address the circulation of child pornographic material.

These initiatives include stakeholder partnerships, school visits, and media forums.

"These initiatives are geared toward sensitisation and awareness of the laws relating to the type of offence that can be committed and the protection against said offences that is available to individuals," Young said.
